Tab Stash — Josh Berry

— Em, pred 3 letiSo far excellent. Simple and seems reliable (only used for a day). I would suggest the following if it didn't impact stability:
-Allow easier selection of only one group to export (export option next to each group instead of higher level menu?). It took me a while to find the export button.
-Keep the chosen export format between exports or firefox sessions (or alternatively, let the user select the preferred export format in the settings)
-On first use after install, Default setting when pressing the stash button should be to open the side bar menu. When learning a new add on, its always a bit worrisome when it starts to stash or store hundreds of tabs when you first press the menu bar button. Users can change the option once familiar and comfortable with the add-on.
-Add-on should have option to add to stash without closing or hiding the tabs. I could find no such option.
I did have the add-on crash while storing tabs for the first time, but the feed back on the crash was very well done, front and centre on the side bar so I realized what had happened, and the ability of the app to recover from the crash without losing data was impressive for an add-on.
The add-on appears to run very efficiently, isn't trying to do too much, transparent without doing something in the background without showing it's progress like so many other tab add-ons which take over the computer without showing the progress or if they're stalled or crashed.
Love the colours on the buttons giving an idea of how critical a task is (white, yellow, red). Love the undo ability in case I made a mistake.
Excellent design. Good job so far. Love the simplicity. Still a learning curve, but easier than most tab add-ons.

objavljeno ob pred 3 letiThank you very much for the thoughtful review! I'm glad to hear you've had a good first impression, though I'm sorry to hear you hit a crash (even if the feedback was clear). If it happens again, please do report it on GitHub so that I can track it down—I try very hard to make sure users never have to see that notification. :)
Thanks also for the suggestions—I'll be sure to keep them in mind! I agree the default setting of "stash and show the UI" can be a bit unsettling for new users and I do plan to change it in the future. To your point about adding to the stash without closing tabs—you can do this by holding the Alt (or Option) key when clicking the "Stash" button.
Thanks again, and I hope you continue to find Tab Stash useful!

Firefox allocated 8GB of RAM and crashed (I have few thousands tabs opened).
It is storing "stashes" in a bookmarks which is good.
When tabs are finally stashed, then it is using about 500MB of RAM just to show a list of "stashes".Odgovor razvijalca
objavljeno ob pred enim mesecemThanks for the feedback—it is true that Tab Stash currently doesn't handle thousands of OPEN tabs (in the same window) very well. However, it is known to handle large sets (tens of thousands) of STASHED tabs quite well, with minimal memory usage, and I've put quite a lot of work into making sure it stays that way.
The 500MB of RAM you're referencing is likely because you have thousands of tabs loaded in the UI from when you first stashed your open tabs—this will normally be much smaller because UI elements are created only when they need to be shown.
As for the one-by-one processing of tabs, that's unfortunately a limitation in Firefox's bookmarks API. Having lots of parallel bookmark operations running can mess up Firefox Sync and cause other problems in the bookmarks database. - Ocenjeno z 5 od 5— Uporabnik Firefoxa 13978806, pred 2 mesecema

objavljeno ob pred 2 mesecemaThanks for the kind words! I have good news, which is that there is already built-in export functionality. You can find it in the main menu or in the menu for any folder.
You can also use any built-in Firefox features or other bookmarking add-ons to work with the bookmarks in your stash, and Tab Stash will keep itself up to date! So feel free to use whatever bookmark backup tool works best for you. - Ocenjeno z 5 od 5— AEZ314, pred 2 mesecemaI'm in love with this extension! Would love to see it on Chrome based browsers too (please port it, I desperately need it lol)

objavljeno ob pred 2 mesecemaThanks, I'm really happy you like it! A Chrome port is unfortunately very unlikely, because Tab Stash uses a lot of Firefox-specific things. Also, I am not a Chrome user, so wouldn't be able to provide good support for it. But it may happen one day, I won't say "never". :) - Ocenjeno z 5 od 5— frostbyte, pred 3 meseci
- Ocenjeno z 2 od 5— MyFirefox, pred 3 meseciBe ye forewarned... do not jump right into this or any other open tab manager if you have a lot of currently opened tabs that you expect the extension to help you sort out.
My fault really, but intending to just look around, I hovered & then clicked to stash on a filtered selection. Not seeing a way to pause, cancel or undo; I could only let it run. How bad could it be?
It not only "stashed" the ~500 tabs from the filtered selection, but threw the other 3200 tabs in with. Then to my horror found that it put every single one of the 3700 tabs into "hidden tabs".
I only learned of this after a frantic race to shut down every other process & service on the machine to free up as much of the 32GB as possible, praying that Fx wouldn't crash.
It finally ended, and after wasting a bunch of time trying to find a solution, have now resolved to spending more time cleaning up the resulting mess than it would have taken without the help of the extension.
Badly needs an Undo. Badly needs Select/Unselect All on filtered lists. There's not even the ability to Tap-Space to keep selecting in a list, it's a slog of one-click-at-a-time. Badly needs a setting to only affect what is selected and don't mess with anything else.Odgovor razvijalca
objavljeno ob pred 3 meseciSo if I'm reading this right, it sounds like you were expecting "Stash all tabs" to stash only the tabs matching the search. That's a fair point; I've made a note to look into this further.
I'm afraid I don't really understand the rest of your post, though, because:
- When Tab Stash hides/stashes tabs, it's not going to use any more resources than before (i.e. your memory usage will stay the same or decrease), so I don't really understand why the rush to free up memory?
- There IS a single-click "undo" for an accidental "stash all tabs", which is to simply unstash the group that was created.
- You can select multiple tabs at once by shift+clicking, just like you would in Windows Explorer or Finder. There's no need to select each tab individually. (And yes, this respects filtering, so you can select an entire list of filtered tabs with one click and one shift+click.)
Anyway, I hope this helps, and if you'd like any more help, feel free to open an issue on GitHub! - Ocenjeno z 5 od 5— STAR CRIMSON, pred 3 meseci

Odgovor razvijalca
objavljeno ob pred 3 meseciAfraid I'm not quite sure what you mean here; if you're talking about restoring tabs automatically after a browser restart, that's built-in to Firefox, and not something Tab Stash does. Otherwise, feel free to open an issue on GitHub and I'd be happy to chat with you further to figure out what's going on! - Ocenjeno z 5 od 5— Aoshi Shinomori, pred 4 meseciI've been a Firefox user since ver. 2 and this is my very first extension review. It's an essential complement to get your bazillion tabs back after an unexpected error or closing the wrong window. Simple and easy to use, thanks Josh!

objavljeno ob pred 4 meseciGlad you like it! Unfortunately a Chrome port isn't likely any time soon because there are some unique Firefox capabilities that Tab Stash uses which just aren't available in Chrome. But I appreciate the interest!- Ocenjeno z 5 od 5— cehem, pred 4 meseci
