It doesn't work at all. Every time I want to download a video a prompt comes out and tells me:" Native Application is not installed. In order to download streaming videos you need to install native application. Would you like to install it now?"

So totally use less.

I'm on Firefox 58.0.1 on a mac

Unfortunately at this moment Native Application is only available for Windows systems, versions for Linux and Mac OS X are under development.
Linux and Mac OS X users still can install old AVD version in Firefox 56 and below from Mozilla website here: https://addons.vaultpit.io/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloader-player/versions/
