Reviews for PocketTube: Youtube PlayList Manager
PocketTube: Youtube PlayList Manager by Dima Nabok

by Jerome Jaglale, 10 months agoMoving several videos at once from one playlist to another is paywalled (prompt for Patreon subscription). Lame.
A trial period, or a limit on the number of selected videos would have been better. And make that clear on the add-on description. Otherwise it just upsets people.
I understand it takes some work to maintain that, but give something useful to people first. No one cares about groups.
EDIT to answer the developer: Such nonsense! If so many users care about groups, why don't you make that only a premium feature? I would have gladly paid for this if it had been made in a way that made more sense and not so overtly money grabbing. You just wasted my time.
EDIT 2: Sir, I do appreciate your work: it's a great idea, you made it work, and you keep maintaining it. Bravo. I'm a developer myself, so I know it takes time, skill, and dedication. My point, like most bad reviews you got, is that most features are paywalled. And that's not mentioned in the plugin description at all. It's very misleading, and it's done on purpose. We installed the add-on expecting all those features would be free. That was our EXPECTATION. Discovering we have to pay, we felt tricked.
Please just be clear in the add-on description about which features are free, and which are premium. That's all. No one is arguing with you that your work deserves to be paid. We are upset just because we felt tricked. That's not good business practice. I'm taking the time to write that so you can do better in the future. Best of luck to you. Don't hate me too much :)

posted 10 months agoWe have a lot of users who care about groups, the basic groups for organizing playlists are free, if you want extended features you should become a patrons. We're showing Patreon screen on every of our videos. It takes time to update the extension every time YouTube changes internally.
Furthermore, the decision to keep some features for the Patreon version of PocketTube was made to ensure the long-term feasibility of the free version.
Edit: I understand you don't care about my hard work around the extension, we all like free stuff. But in a world where everything is free, we are the product.
Edit2: Ok, added it to a description

- Rated 1 out of 5by Ubeinn, 25 days agoThe features you'd want the most are blocked behind a paywall, so this is useless.

- Rated 5 out of 5by James, 2 months agoThis thing is an absolute dream come true! I have a TON of playlists. I love the feature, and use it heavily. I create playlists of my favorite videos for different channels, and when I discover a new channel I enjoy, I create a "catch-up" playlist of their old videos. All of this used to be easy. There were various websites that worked with the API to allow playlists to be copied, sorted by length, all kinds of stuff. But bit-by-bit, YouTube has changed the API so that none of these sites work anymore. Now, if you want to build a really big playlist, you have to manually, one-by-one add videos to plalists. Sorting options have always been limited, and now they're even worse.
This extension fixes all of that! Now I have a clean interface, with my playlists sorted by time, and making new ones is the simple task that it SHOULD be natively. Well worth the Patreon investment, and I'm definitely checking out the other extensions made by the same dev. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 19231949, 2 months agoLiterally wanted this for one thing, to organize my watch later playlist by video length, and they paywalled it. With no mention on the download page that you need to pay. This is literally the first add-on I've ever been told I needed to pay for to use a feature. Really Scummy.

posted 2 months agoScummy, really? I'm not cheating you. The link on Patreon is available on the extension download page. Why did not open it? Moreover, it's also mentioned in the description, please check the Sort playlist videos by duration [only for our patrons]

So did you blame me without any reason? Why did you scum me in your review, little guy, who's trying to innovate?
I am not a big corporation. We all like free stuff. But in a world where everything is free, we are the product. It's a world where big corporations have all the power because they are the only ones who can afford to offer "free" services. Is that in our interest? - Rated 1 out of 5by kazerniel, 2 months agoPlaylist filtering (the only reason I got this addon) is paywalled... Tip to dev: Maybe indicate clearly on the addon page which features are paywalled to avoid user disappointment and low reviews.

- Rated 1 out of 5by DUN, 4 months agoPopup his ads on YT.
Edit: Not true ? Then what's the popup lead to the ads on Youtube of your other addon ? A joke ?
Stop lying.Developer response
posted 4 months agoThat's not true, our extension is ad-free. Maybe you have other extensions causing that behavior. We don't add external ads or replace native YouTube ads.
Edit: If you were referring to our other add-on, it's not an external ads, it's part of our own ecosystem. PocketTube includes two extensions: one for managing subscriptions and another for playlists. If the other add-on isn’t relevant to you, you can simply close the popup, there’s no pressure.
The popup you saw is part of our onboarding flow. We also use it to inform users about new features. We focus on building features our users love and rely on every day.
If you’re not comfortable with our approach, you’re welcome to remove the extension. - Rated 1 out of 5by Firefox user 18983384, 5 months ago
