After you start a title on Netflix, you can bring up the stats window by pressing CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+D, which would be a 100% reliable metric to judge functionality. You will see the actual streaming resolution as well as several other stats, such as audio playback to verify. Keep in mind that it will take Netflix a short time to buffer to HD resolution when you first start watching; this is normal. If you have one of the 1080p presets chosen and it is available on the title you are watching, it will match closely to the screenshot below taken today.
